I'm in English and I have a job, but I imagine it is only a matter of time before I turn very bitter over money. I like teaching college, but I'm not committed to teaching writing. I used to teach all subject areas at a charter school, so I think I could pretty much enjoy anything.
But, I want money.
In what field should I get another master's? (I don't want a PhD, so it needs to be field where I can teach with a MA, and yes, I prefer CCs over Us.) I am mathematically and scientifically inclined.

Get an MA in engineering. Financially, this has worked out marvelously for several people I am closely acquainted with.

Hmm... I majored in engineering for three years as an undergrad, so I should be able to pick up the coursework quickly. Now, the question becomes which type of engineering? I'm not so interested in civil.

Go for mechanical! MEs seem to be in demand.
If you are mathematically and scientifically inclined, why did you pick writing? Some of us are only good in those non-marketable humanities and liberal arts fields, so the choice was sort of made for us. :)

I love writing and teaching. I never even considered being able to teach with a degree in the sciences. Now I know better.

With an engineering background and writing skills, you might easily be able to get a new job as a technical writer without needing a new degree. Can you do informational interviews with any one in your geographical area who works as a writer in a technical field?

I don't want to do technical writing. I want the teaching life.

What's wrong with the Prytania Plan (PP) (TM)? Teach, play the stock market, become fabulously rich. (Well, there's the Connecticut part. But these days I think you could do this just about anywhere.)

How bout that bill/melinda gates foundation; aren't they into developing private schools for technically-gifted K12?
I see ads here out west from them for teachers....

Gayle, if you are "all ready" in accounting, does that also mean that you are already in accounting? Are you prepared to get all ready in another field?

Look, I used to write 'already' until one of my high school English teachers beat it out of me. I mostly try to avoid the phrase all together (altogether?) in any professional writing. I don't really want a new career, just a new job, but I can't get that because I don't 'technically' have the appropriate experience. AAARRRGGGHHHH
