Dear advisee,

It's a very simple thing. You call. You make an appointment. You keep the appointment. I advise you.

If you can't manage this, perhaps you ought to be rethinking this whole college thing.

Most sincerely,

Cookie Scalpers!  OhMyGod what is the world coming to!

Call up your local Girl Scout council (found at http://www.girlscouts.org/councilfinder/) and tell them you want cookies.

The reason you can't buy them online has to do with a lot of ridiculous cheating people have done over the years, jacking up the prices (it's NOT allowed, you have to sell them at the price you're told).  Any non-official sales basically amount to stealing money from all the other troops in the area, because they don't follow standard procedure.

Ah, see, now on the website it says something or other about keeping the girls safe, blah blah blah. Pedophiles-shmedophiles, I want cookies!

MirandaF, who settled for Dairy Queen instead

Oh yeah, the safety thing is the official reason, and it's in line with other GS policies--i.e. we teach them about crossing the street safely, so we teach them about using the internet safely.

But a LOT of the insane rules about cookies REALLY come about because one year you have unscrupulous parents selling them for too much out of the back of a car . . . it is a CRAZY world.

Um, folks? Remember that trip I've been going on about for the last 4 months? You know, the one to Reno? I leave Tuesday. I won't get back until Saturday. Don't keep giving me new deadlines that have to be met by, like, next Friday! The person I need to consult with before sending out that dadgum letter is gone out of state until Monday! I'll have one day to consult, compose said letter and get it mailed. On top of all the other things I have to do before I leave, I am NOT superwoman!

I hate watching a parent die.
I hate being sick myself.
I hate being too sick to be there to help for a few days.
I hate sitting around here doing nothing when I'm needed elsewhere.
I hate the month of May, in fact, and think we should skip it next year.

I had to sell the cursed things door to door. Was that really safe?
