Hi,

I am starting graduate school Phd in the fall in the UK. I was hoping that i would get the lump sum disbursement of my educational loan at once when i started school to cover tution and rent etc.

I just found out that the school filled in 3 disbursement dates which does not make sense to me. Since i have to pay my tution in full or for half of the year in September, the disbursement does not cover this. I took out the loan inorder to pay my tution and have additional to pay for rent etc. so getting 1/3 in September does not pay half a year, a full year...

Has anyone had exeperience with this and or any suggestions on what to do? called Sallie mae, they said the school filled out the forms.

HISTORY:::: i had deferred admissions for a year in '06 and when i originally applied for the loan, they filled in one disbursement date. since then the original loan has expired and i had to submit this new loan application

On the sallie mae webiste ,rights and responsibilities of borrowers, it says that funds can be disbursed all at once if enrolled in a foreign school.

Thanks

Contact the school and see if they will let you pay your fees in installments. I know that we do... we allow our students to pay fees monthly... by direct debit.

I second expat on the contacting the university.

The other thing to do is to have a long chat with the student finance office when you get there, as I can guarantee that this will otherwise happen next year and the year after. Try to make them understand that this is your money for fees, not just your living expenses, because they've undoubtedly assumed that this is the same as a UK postgraduate grant that arrives in October, January and March.
