Greetings,

I generally only frequent the UK board but here I am.

Myself and 3 or 4 colleagues are attending a five day conference in New York in October and we were thinking about the possibility of renting a furnished apartment that would accommodate all of us rather than paying several hotel rooms.

I do think such places are available, I recall reading about them in a UK Sunday newspaper - unfortunately can't remember which one! Anyone know where I could start looking???

Any help appreciated....

I don't know about furnished apartments for short-term rental, but there is a chain of hotels called "Residence Inn" that might be of interest to you.  They specialize in customers who need accommodations longer than a usual hotel stay.

Try:

As far as one-week rentals, the only company I know of that lists them would be http://www.new-york-apartment.com

It was listed in Travel and Leisure a while ago.

You're right. The Village Voice has been a losing proposition ever since they started giving it away. It used to be the place, though...

You're right as well, prytania. I forgot about the Voice. Here is the link to sublets http://newyork.backpage.com/gyrobase/classifieds/index . It seems like most of the sublets are for longer periods of time, though.

If you can't find a sublet, you may want to look into the Hotel Edison.  It's an older hotel without some services (no room service, for example), but it has two-room suites, and the prices are reasonable, especially for New York.

We stayed there a couple years ago for MLA and enjoyed it.  It's right in Times Square; the staff were terrific; and it had a kind of 1940s charm, the sort of place you'd stay in after getting off the train wearing a flannel suit.

I've looked into short term apartment rentals in NYC before, and it seems like most require a huge deposit up front. I have to go to a conference there as well, but I'm hoping to find a relatively inexpensive flight/hotel package on Expedia or Orbitz.
