In the wake of Oklahoma State University's announcement this spring that it had secured some $270-million for its athletics program by taking out life-insurance policies on 27 boosters, nearly 100 other colleges have started to consider life-insurance policies on wealthy alumni as well. But some analysts say that insurance companies and venture capitalists are the players that come out ahead in such deals -- and that some of the financing mechanisms violate state laws. Is it wise to invest in insurance policies? What legal and moral issues are involved?

Interesting idea, but kind of creepy. 

And I just can't escape the feeling that anybody who views insurance as a good investment (rather than protection for unseen circumstances) is deluding him/herself.  Or homicidal.

As strange and perverted as this seems, individuals have been making a their livings doing this for years.  It came as a great surprise to me several years ago, that anyone can take out a life insurance policy on anyone else.  As long as you continue to make the premium payments, you will collect when the insured individual dies.  I think the whole thing is about as twisted as you can get!
