A Chronicle survey of college trustees has found that less than 15 percent felt they were well prepared for the job. That lack of preparation can affect campus politics, college operations, and fund raising -- and can sour relations with the college president. What kinds of people should colleges seek out to serve on boards of trustees? And how should trustees be educated once they have joined a board?
