I have answered question after question for months and months up the wazoo around here-- people do not like the answers, so they conveniently deny they were ever offered. I think you are confusing responding to questions with answering them. You sometimes respond to questions but when you do, it is generally with some combination of condescension, insults, and unsupported assertions. On the rare occasions that you actually say something potentially useful, you almost always mitigate that usefulness with a parting shot of rudeness or worse. When you are asked directly to answer a question you are very unlikely to do so. Sometimes you go as far as to leave the thread completely, rather than give a straight answer to a direct question. But, no, you have not "answered question after question for months and months." (Unless, as you say, you have been answering them up the wazoo, instead of answering them here.)

Miss Rowan: People are bad. Wicked sinners. All of them. That is what the bible teaches, and thankfully God provides us with a possibility of salvation through Christ, else we'd all be headed to the Hell we deserve to spend eternity flaming in. You may choose to put rose-colored glasses on and fail to recognize this, but every once in a while, something like the Va tech mass shooting occurs, which confirms the reality of what the bible says. And freaks out those who do not or will not believe that bible. Ah well.

True story:
One of the nuns at the Catholic all-girl's high school I attended told me I was going to hell.
I told her I would see her there.
She was not amused!

Do you think? You must have been quite a teen. hehehehe... I did preschool, elementary, and all but two and a half years of high school at three schools run by the same order of nuns that were on the same city block. I have ALWAYS been a talker. When I was in the seventh grade the principal (all-girl's high school) told my mom that I talked too much. I'd known this nun since I was three! My mom told her that when I talked to much in preschool they thought it was so cute and told her that she should allow me to express myself. She then told her that they created the problem so they could figure out how to deal with me and my mouth!

Let's try another angle here-- many, MANY posters here regularly decry students who offer varying degrees of excuses for inability to complete academic work. Some of these excuses are very lame, even for adolescents, but others are personal issues, etc., more or less the same sort of thing Obscure is pleading here. The difference, however, is that very few people here ever give any student excuses any sympathy at all-- I do so far more than most here-- why is it that excuses from adolescents are unacceptable, whereas similar excuses from middle-aged professionals who are being paid for their labors are fine?
When I held a student (with no dead grandmother or anything like that) to a deadline even as I was missing a deadline for a conference paper, I commented on this to my dept chair. She told me that I had earned the right to miss the occasional deadline by meeting lots of deadlines for many years through 3 degrees and the tenure track. I didn't feel any better about myself, for I tend to beat myself up. But I also lived with my contradiction, and continued to hold the student to her deadline. Incidentally, let's not be so down on Wal-Mart. Personally, I have gotten some good bargains there *and* seen long-term gains in their shares. I certainly respect both the executives and the workers who can deliver those results.

I'm not sure how Rowan's worlds amount to the denial of evil. I think that you and I, K16, live in different culturally constituted behavioral environoments. Human being are both beast and angel. AS Hamlet put it, "What are fellows like me to do, crawling here between heaven and earth?" As Zimbardo showed up decades ago, we all have the capacity for cruelty. Part of spiritual growth is recognizing one's limitations: As they say in AA, "There is a God, and it's not me." Obscure, but still the first dog in space

I'm not freaked out by the shooting. I also do not view the Bible (which I had always been taught was to be capitalized out of respect, btw) as anything other than an historical document upon which millions of people depend to fulfill various roles in their lives. Hmmm....... huh..... well... back to living in that crazy world of mine where I accept the unpredictability of humanity and my lack of control over the world. I may end up in Hell, but it will not be for being vaingloriously presumptuous enough to speculate about the state of anyone else's personal relationship with their respective religious figures.

People are bad. good. Wicked sinners. Loving brothers and sisters. All of them. So many, many of them. That is what the bible teaches, and thankfully God Jesus helped demonstrate it, as have many other humans. ...provides us with a possibility of salvation through Christ, else we'd all be headed to the Hell we deserve to spend eternity flaming in. You may choose to put rose evil-colored glasses on and fail to recognize this, but every once in a while, something like the Va tech mass shooting occurs, countless acts of human kindness, cooperation, and compassion which confirm s the reality of what the bible Jesus says. And freaks out those who do not or will not believe that bible. Ah well.
