Can someone please explain to me why on earth bras in larger sizes are padded?
Do I need MORE of what I already have too much of? Really?

The ones I wear are slightly padded. While I was against them initially, I really like them now--not only are they more flattering--not adding size, but giving a bit more shape, but they are particularly handy for colder days, if you get my meaning.

THANK you!! The (unpadded) bra brand/style I've worn for years is no longer available, and the "replacement" style has padded material. I asked the salesgirl to show me something unpadded--and this idiot tried to convince me that this bra wasn't padded. "It's just thicker material, that's all." Yeah, a LOT thicker. It was sort of like me saying, "I'm not short, I just don't reach five feet."

A little padding protects from change in temps add shape. I agree. That said, we don't need a chicken cutlet inserted so that the girls reach our chins! I want them off the floor, but I don't want to suffocate!

I'm thinking of a literal chicken cutlet here and that's kind of gross. But yeah, most bra manufacturers make something called a T-shirt bra (or something similar) that isn't really padded but has concealing lining--sometimes a bit think--in it. I decided awhile ago that the lumpiness that ultimately results from bras like that was worse than letting people know that I--gasp!--actually have nipples.
Has anyone tried those petal things for when you want to go braless but don't want to chafe? Do they really stick on?

As a total lingere snob, I have to say I can't usually find *good* bras in the US. I vastly prefer French and Italian lines. Why we can put a man on the moon, and still not make decent knickers is beyond me, but there ya go. If you're seeking a really GOOD bra, and are willing to pay a bit more than at le Target, try: www.chantelle.com They have an english option. As for the BDH and stalker issue, I think we should at least tar and feather the idioth. Where's Igor?? I heard he had some new pokey tools?

Great idea! Igor? Igor? Here boy! Igor is cowering behind me with his head down and his fingers in his ears. He is squeamish about anything girly (except dr_evil's female minions), and since this thread is now mostly about bras, I think it's a lost cause. Plus, there's so much earwax in there I think it will take me days to extract his fingers. I might have to borrow his tools. VP

Now that I've checked the name where I went last time, let me recommend Torrid ( www.torrid.com) for those of us who are <ahem> well endowed. The bras I got there sadly aren't the most comfortable (nor are they the least), but they do provide the best support of any I've ever owned.

When I got married my husband was shocked to discover how much I would spend in a matching bra/panty set. I too love French lines. Illuminata, have you tried Aubade? I think it is actually what got me my husband ;)

And may I suggest bare necessities.com for your underwear outfitting? They carry Aubade, Le Mystere, La Perla, Chantelle, etc. and are decently priced. I heart them. I just now ordered some new girly underbits to congratulate myself for getting a job.

OMG, the print ads for Aubade are incredible. They would *never* make it in the US. In France, however, they are practically life-size on the sides of bus stops...
