I have seen posts on the UAE but does anyone have any information on the Higher Colleges of Technology in
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. They have some academic administration positions open.

I suggest you head over to the job forums at Dave's ESL cafe (in particular the Middle East forum).  You'll find lots of discussion on HCT.  I haven't been following things lately but they were at one point having some problems with the teachers being very resentful towards administrators.  (So what's new.)

Over the years I've known a number of people who have taught different subjects at the various campuses of HCT.  Of course, my information is second-hand, but I get the impression that the place has gone downhill during the past decade or so.  Also, HCT seems to get a lot of students who are weak even by the generally low standards of the region. Finally, the pay sounds too low for the rising cost of living in the Gulf.

HCT is more of an exhibition establishment than an education establishment.

The students are actually a joy to work with.  The ones that make it out of foundations (remedial work anywhere else) are bright and curious.  Most of them would enjoy contributing to their country's future economic development.

Most of the staff teach developmental English and/or Maths.  Very few of my former colleagues had terminal credentials.

One of the interesting parts of the job is that you occasionally have class interrupted by VIP visitors, such as Bill Gates.  Visit HCT's web site for a comprehensive set of photographs.  HCT is often "Exhibit A" when the royal family invites western VIPs to town. They leave with warm and fuzzy feelings ---- the students get to meet important people --- and you do too.

It's not a bad place to work --- it's simply not really an academic enterprise.  Once you get used to that fact --- it's actually rather fun.
