I moved February 28 and I'm still living out of boxes. To compound the situation I'm six months pregnant and unable to move a thing for myself.

I've only moved once before... and it wasn't a "you have to be out by a certain day (lease was up)" situation.

I'm sort of feeling like I'll never get unpacked...

Thoughts?

Don't worry about it. Just unpack what you need, when you need it. Particularly if it's physically difficult for you to do so. Or ... do you know anyone in your new hometown who can help out?

I haven't moved in a while, but it takes me for-ev-er to unpack from trips. I see it as a good form of procrastination. My husband's the opposite: he must always unpack as soon as he steps in the door, no matter how late it is or jet-lagged we are.

Recently we came back from a joint on-campus interview. He unpacked right away. Then re-packed the next morning before he left on another interview trip. When he got back two days later, I still hadn't unpacked my bags from the first trip!!

Two moves ago it took me 3 years to get artwork/pictures unpacked and up on the walls ... not that I'm recommending that, but you shouldnt feel pressure to get it all done at once. Like tree hugger said, do as you need it and dont worry about the rest.
Congratulations about the expected arrival!

Each time I have moved it took 1-2 days to unpack. I can't stand living out of boxes. It makes me feel like a transient. Of course, I was physically able to do it.

I've had boxes that weren't unpacked for years. Don't sweat it. Unpack what you need and do the rest when you can.

I moved in January and we are still unpacking. Don't sweat it...it'll happen eventually. For my spouse and I, the priority things were kitchen items and clothes, followed by books and media. Guest room pillows? Lamps we no longer need? Random cleaning stuff? All still in boxes in the basement.

It usually takes me at least a year to unpack.

I am also plagued by the "well, maybe I'll move next year if I don't like this place" syndrome.  Why unpack when you're just going to need to pack again?

Yeah! I know that my spouse and I are not going to stay in our current location for very long, and I'm sure some things will never get unpacked. At the same time, I'm trying to get rid of things we won't use here or in other future houses. Somehow posters/prints and stuffed animals continue to tag along....

I moved last summer.  Still waiting to see how long it takes.  :)  I think it will happen this summer.

I still have many items in a storage unit - most likely indefinitely. Don't think I'll every really and truly unpack!

The funniest thing is that I have several pieces of furniture that still still have multiple moving inventory stickers on them...some of them are from a move that has to be at least ten years ago!

What does this mean, "unpack"? I don't understand.

(We moved so many times in the last few years that we don't know what some boxes contain. I figure if we can go a whole childhood without opening it, then we should give it away. Of course, I always peek first, and then we don't give it away.)

I moved 3 years ago.  I have a 3 bedroom house.  the closets in the non-master bedrooms still have boxes.  I sort of know what is in there.  I could probably throw them away and not really worry about it too much.  My dissertation is in there somewhere.  I suppose that I could just order it from the university, though.

Oh, hell, now that I think about it, there are plenty of boxes in the back of the big walk in closet too.

In fact.... When I went to my parent's house over Christmas, they asked about the steamer trunks I had in their attic.  I had forgotten about them!  They were from moving to PhD school!  I carted them home with me and they are Also in the walk in closet.  So that would be 4 moves and 14 years ago!

So, I suppose that the question is similar to "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?"
