negotiating a job for a spouse?

I have a job offer, and my spouse is also in academia. Is it possible to negotiate for a position for my spouse? If so, am I limited to adjunct type positions, or could I negotiate for a tenure track position, given that my spouse has a good publication record?

I would say this depends tremendously on the institution and the fields. Where I am at now, there is a university policy that helps support spousal hires and they are very good about developing at least short term positions until better solutions can be found. But this is at a flagship state university with lots of money, openings, and teaching needs. At a small college with less money and fewer faculty, it may be quite hard to drop someone into a department. It doesn't hurt to ask, but I would hew my expectations based on the size of the university, and the competitiveness of the fields you/spouse work in. And I wouldn't expect a tenure-line position, at least not to start, as these often by regulations have to be done through full searches.
Good luck negotiating.

You can always start by asking for TT, although it's highly unlikely you'll get it. The next thing to ask for is full-time lecturer with benefits. Last would be guaranteed adjuncting, paid by the course.
Good luck!

One strategy is to get your department chair on board with you. Make s/h/it negotiate for you.
