Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of the new Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi? Do they advertise posts?

Thanks JD, anyone else have any knowledge of this new university?

I've gone past the campus, but I haven't been on the campus yet.  It is located on the edge of the city/island part of Abu Dhabi.

The impression I get is that they are mostly flying in professors from France.  At any rate, one would have to be able to teach in French.

By the way, there are also plans for a Francophone university in Dubai even though Arabic (official) and English (quasi-official second lanauge)
are much more widely spoken in the UAE than French.

As far as I know, you have to be a member of the French academic system (think "Komintern" or "People's Republic of Academia") if you want to teach there. Ie, you have to become a french civil servant.

That means :

a) pass the Agregation
b) be "qualified" by the commission of State named CNU.
c) be recruited by a French university as Maître de Conférence.
d) after a few years of teaching at one of our "fac-poubelles", ask the centralised bureaucracy of the ministery if it's possible to teach at Abu Dhabi.

Plus, I'm ready to bet that step "d" requires some helluva string-pulling. Do you know any bigwig at the Ministery ?

If you're a scientist, you may prefer to enter the CNRS, and ask latter for a secondment to Abu-Dhabi. The string-pulling would be as necessary, though.

Anyway, I'm pretty certain it's only possible to teach there by secondment from the French public system. Keep repeating the mantra "the State is your brother, the State is your father, the State is your provider, the State is your master" and, maybe, if you climb the bureaucratic ladder step by step, the Supreme Soviet will allow you to teach a few semester at Abu-Dhabi circa 2020.

The official, simplified diagrams of our Ministery of Research may "help" you :

http://www.recherche.gouv.fr/pid551/systeme-francais-recherche.html

and

http://www.recherche.gouv.fr/pid550/organismes-independants-organismes-sous-tutelle.html

A) try to find where the Sorbonne at Abu-Dhabi fits on the diagrams.
B) try to figure how you can go there.
C) try to guess what kind of support, exams, degrees and publications you need to go there.

See ? It's like a sovietic version of "connecting-the-dots".

Socialism will bury you... under kafkaesque bureaucracy.
