I'm in my second post doc position now.  The first invited me out for a department seminar and lab visit, as well as a look at the city, dinner, etc.  Flight for me and hotel for two nights was covered.  I took my wife with me (at the agreement of the PI).  He did not pay for her flight, the third night of hotel that we reserved, or the car we rented so we could stay longer and see more of the city.  As I've typed that, I realize how accomodating he was...haha.  I guess I pushed it, but I got the job because he wanted me in the lab.  No moving expenses were covered, though.
The second paid for me to fly and for hotel for the interview.  Just me this time, as wife and I were both very familiar with the city.  But this one paid for 3000 of moving expenses, too.

Go ahead and ask while at lunch or dinner, not as soon as you step off the plane.  Ask in such a way that the possibility of you NOT getting reimbursed is no big deal (even though it is inside  your head and bank account).
