I cannot believe you were interviewed by a committee made up only of females. That's sick and it makes me want to puke.

Your sarcasm represents your anger toward white men. I don't have a problem with it, because I know it is not about me. Why don't we label it for what it is though? Anti White Male anger.

What's next? A women or black man for president of the U.S. of A.?

Why not just a good president? You care more about the color of the next president than the policies.

I am so glad there are people as you defending our country from the bigotry of anti-sexism and anti-racism.

I'm not denying that these things exist. Yes, there are unfair practices in our culture. Are you advocating I should be punished somehow for them?

need to diversify is present because we often higher people who look/think/act/vote/believe as we do, creating a system that is prejudiced against anyone who is unlike us. Therefore, if a SC notices the entire department is made of "Mr. Smiths" (e.g. the Matrix trilogy, especially the third movie), it behoves them to look for someone unlike them, but who will still get along with them.

then choose someone that doesn't believe in diversity...lol

Snort, ok. But tell me how that stance will enable the candidate to "still get along with them"?

Why are you extrapolating from this post that the forumite cares more about the race than the policies? It's more than a stretch to make that connection.

White men make very good cabana boys. Can be a little uptight, though.

"Where is the empirical evidence about what diversity actually improves? " Look around you. What you see is the result of evolution. Look underneath the ground. What you see is what didn't make it.

Why argue about "improves?" The fact is that evolution presupposes diversity. In the world of intellect, that's the agora, the marketplace of ideas. Different people mean different ideas. Different ideas mean new perspectives, innovation, problems solved.

But there is place for those who prefer to keep things as they are. It's called the past.

Why is it that every time a white boy fails to get a job, it's gotta be either a brother's fault or those filthy immigrants' who come here and take our jobs? But the white boy never thinks that maybe he just was not qualified. Hmm...

No. They mentioned race and politics. The sarcasm suggested it was something that they would really like to see (my interpretation) or something that would be bothersome to me. I really don't care about the race or gender of the next prez.

Forgive me for being a scientist here and suggesting that while your anecdotal evidence is compelling, you have no facts to base your statements. Look around the world is flat!

I used to work with a male who said he couldn't get a job because he had, "young white pen*s disease."

Every time he said it, the picture that ran through my mind of him standing in front of the SCC's desk and dropping his pants to reveal this faintly glowing, sickly, white pen*s and saying, "Isn't this supposed to get me a job!"

Needless to say, I never told him that I imagined what his pen*s looked like.

But for my money (and guess what, I'm a white male!) the new biases are a step beyond the old ones and make for better educational environments for all.  And thinking we can rid the system of *all* biases is hopelessly naive.

Can you quantify this? How are they better academic environments?

As for you being a white male, so what! Race is different from privilege. Are you a privileged white male?

I'm not blaming anyone. In fact, I feel that if I am not chosen for the job that It would not have been a good fit. Being chosen would have made my life difficult.

I'm just asking for others to offer a reasonable argument in favor of diversity; One that is grounded in logic and evidence. I'm not beyond being brought to the otherside if a compelling argument is offered.

Imagine if I said this about Jews, Blacks, Women, or Hispanics.

I know you are joking, but isn't it racist none the less?

You don't know me. If you did, you would see that I am kind, generous, loyal, trustworthy, and compassionate. Not the evil villain your imagining at all.
