I'm waiting for Mike Huckabee to enter in earnest.  The guy is someone to watch.  I saw him on CSPAN a year or so ago, and he's got charm, he talks in a reasonable way that draws people in, and he makes no secret of his far-right/religious stances but you still get "sit and have a reasonable, intelligent, respectful conversation" out of his speech.  Plus he's got the weight-loss story, lots of energy, vitality, air of guy who gets things done and knows what trouble is.

I don't know that he can really get any traction in this race, but I doubt governor is his last stop.  Something tells me he'll be the far right's best friend since Ralph Reed.  Put him and Rudy in a room, and I bet it's going to be some of the best political conversation/debate we've seen in a while.

The Dem field is not looking so good to me.

Who's going to run?  Everybody but the kitchen sink.  Nominee on the Dem's side - Hillary & Edwards as veep, on the Pub's side - Huckabee as my long shot prediction with Romney as veep.  Everyone else is worrisome to the conservative base, it seems and it just seems Arkansas is on a roll as a presidential breeding ground.

Who's going to win?  Certainly not the majority of the voters if past elections are any clue.

Who are you supporting?  Any one who will no longer embarrass us around the world.  I will have to study them all much closer for a while but I am leaning towards Hillary or Edwards with Obama in the understudy role.

What will be Bill's title if Hillary wins?  Vice President (as in person in charge of vice).  Seriously, we could do away with the Vice President position all together. Veep's are either ceremonial (everyone up to the present) or too scary, powerful (Cheney) and not very good in the ceremonial tasks (remember him in the parka at a head of state funeral).  Just call the position - the spare - like the Brit's do.

Huckabee/Romney?  Jeez, that's a weird ticket.  But in a way I could see it.

Huckabee's exploratory committee has "I Like Mike" buttons.  I think that's just right.  I don't know that I want him to be President, but yeah, I like him too.

Huckabee is a great guy.  He follows in W's fine example of knowing about the world.

Oh. My. God. National igloo? Idiots.

I hope to see a Clinton-Obama ticket and a landslide win.

Exactly!  That's why he's a shoo-in.  A good ol' down home boy with  likeability.  Elections aren't about being smart, it's about who can get money and buy the best marketing machine.  But Huckabee can at least carry on a conversation on TV without the deer in the headlights look.

But my long shots in the NCAA's aren't working out like I hoped so what do I know about predicting winners.  I wish we could use the bracket system in the elections rather than the drawn out system we have now.  Just two weeks of campaign commercials would be nice.  We could just start at the sweet 16 level with 8 on each side of the brackets.  The two candidates could compete at something important like sudoku puzzles or jello wrestling(then there would be more woman candidates acceptable to male voters).   Throw in some extra credit points for style.

I wish we had viable third party candidates.

It's not an election. It's an auction, and my money is on anyone who can string together a lucid sentence, does not support fascism, and will deconstruct "Homeland Security" before we all become fluent in futurspeak.

I think McCain will become the Republican nominee, but with a lot of conservatives not being thrilled about it (which is a little baffling, given how conservative he actually is.)  He'll be bloodied enough and the war will continue to be enough of a disaster that he'll be the underdog in the general election.  If Rudy keeps his true colours enough under wraps, he has a shot at the Veep spot, but I think Romney, Huckabee, or Tim Pawlenty (who is working hard for McCain) will probably get it instead.

The Dem side is trickier.  Most likely I think is Clinton, with either Obama, Richardson, or Edwards as running mate.  Should Obama or Edwards be the nominee, I'd expect Richardson for sure on the ticket.  (He would seriously help balance the "not enough experience" rap and the assumption is he would be very popular among Hispanics and he is Governor of a swing state.)

The Dem question mark is Gore.  He is the only one on that side who can wait until fall to jump in.  He's a big old boring geek, but he has been so right about so many things, so who knows?  (I'd be willing to bet he fantasises nightly about the Oscar-Nobel-White House trifecta...)

I will support the Democratic nominee.  I made a vow some years ago not to vote for a Republican for any office under any circumstance until such time as the religious freaks relinquished control of the party and I will stick to that.

My preference would probably be Gore, but that is mostly because I am more familiar with his positions.  Everyone else sort of washes together.  If Al stays home with his PowerPoint presentation, I'd be quite happy with Clinton, Obama, Edwards, Richardson, Biden, Dodd...

McCain is not going to get the Republican ticket. No way. Guiliani will get it. He is ahead in the polls and he is the only Republican who can possibly win the election. I can't imagine who he would pick for a running mate, however.

I think the Democratic ticket will be Clinton/Obama. I would prefer Obama/Richardson, but I don't think it will happen. I thought both Clinton and Obama were disappointing recently when they dodged the question on the morality of homosexuality.

But I thinks it's going to be Guiliani/X  vs. Clinton/Obama. I personally like Guiliani a lot even though I don't like Republicans. Clinton and Obama are both trying to court the religious right in their own ways; whereas, Guiliani is not going to get that vote--no way, no how. I see it as being a very close race, but I can't see a clear victor at this point.

Democrats:  Gore for President, Edwards for Veep.

Republicans: I don't have a clue.  I'd like to see Thompson/Romney, but I have no idea who will actually win the primaries.

I just can't see pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-gun control Rudy getting the nomination.  Plus he is a serial adulterer (yeah, OK, I know, the Jesus freaks don't care about Republicans cheating on their wives) and is incredibly thin-skinned.  (I think he's bound to have a meltdown at some point over a year-long nomination battle.)  I think the polls at this point are somewhat meaningless, but maybe that's just because I don't like Rudy (sorry, pry, I think he dreams of marshall law) and I really don't want him to win.  I do think he'd be the strongest Republican candidate -- if he doesn't go ballistic on someone on camera -- with the strongest crossover appeal, but I just can't see him capturing the nomination of a party that thinks McCain and Romney may be too liberal.
