Hi all,
Today I was invited for a campus interview in a few weeks.  They would like me to arrive on Wednesday and leave on Friday.  I have not yet purchased my ticket.  My spouse and I are thinking that it would be optimal for hu to see the area as well, since this would be a big move for us.  We'd love it if hu could arrive Friday evening and we'd fly home together on Sunday after checking out the area.  My ticket would actually cost the University over $100 less since I'd be staying over a Saturday, and yes, I would expect that we'd pay for all expenses other than my hotel stay W and TH nights and my plane ticket.

So how exactly do I maneuver this with the SC?  I've read the threads about this topic, and it seems as if the concensus is to not even let the SC know that the spouse is around.  In this case, however, telling the whole truth seems like the thing to do (why would I need to stay ALL day F, S and Sun if it's just me?) but it still feels like a very odd thing to discuss with the SCM.

Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Why would you hve to talk to them about it? Just purchase the ticket and send it in for reimbursement, mentioning that you are staying over to visit the city and friends. Ask the hotel for two separate bills -- one for the W-Th and one for the other nights.

The people you send the receipts too are not the SC anyways. Usually it is some administrator, isn't it?
I think you are worried over nothing. Your spouse won't even be there during the interview days!

Let the SC know that you'd like to stay the weekend at your expense to look around the city.  It shows them that you are serious.  I did exactly that for my current position.  They said not to worry about paying for the extra night at the hotel as they'd pay for it.

Yeah -- no trouble whatsoever.  It shows them you're interested enough in the job to check out the area.  That's a good thing in my book.

Good luck!

Hi all,
Thanks for the reassurance.  I've emailed the SCC to let hu know.  No response yet.  Fingers crossed that hu is as understanding as you all are!

Thanks.

Why wouldn't they be understanding?  What you do outside of the interview time is nothing to do with them.
