I would say anywhere from $1500-$3000 per year per faculty member for conferences and other faculty development would be considered good. I know that at one top-tier SLAC it was $2000 per person every 2 years for conferences and other development. Every little bit helps, but I'd start the bidding up around $3000 per year and then climb down using $2000/2 years as a final lowest postion.
Just my thoughts. Sure others may feel differently....

I am at at SLAC and we get guaranteed $500, $800 for advising (if we choose to do so) and we can apply for up to $1000 a year. The last $1000 is not guaranteed but I've gotten it every year.

Depends on expectations for faculty development. For example, if faculty are required to attend national/regional conferences in the discipline as part of their annual expectations, then you should at a minimum make available enough money for them to afford to attend those conferences ($1k/conference is typical). The biggest complaints always come from unfunded mandates...

Ours is $1000 per faculty per year to each dept. Much goes unused each year. If it looks like this will occur, you can apply for another conf, etc. This at a large, midwestern CC

I'm at a state university. We have $500 per year guaranteed, plus two separate accounts of up to $500 each to which we can apply. It's not supposed to be guaranteed, but I've never been turned down. There are many other small pools of money available as well if you keep a look out.

At my SLAC it is $600 per year. The College has a few other pools of money that we can apply for including $ for travel to present our scholarly work, $3200 supplemental funds and $ to travel to conferences about teaching.

The last two institutions I've be at have $1,000 guaranteed, and we also have other pools you can apply to, including $3,000 for conference travel or research.

We get around $1000, and then two conferences are paid in full on top of that. More conferences and summer travel are by competition, as is academic year research funding. I'm at a slac in the humanities. I think the science people have a different funding structure.
