I have heard of a cutoff date for the 2008 RAE- when will the cutoff date be passed and RAE not be as important for new applicants for UK jobs? (this may and probably does show some misconception about RAE! :)

The census date for the RAE is 31 Oct. This means that anyone in an academic post by that date can be included in the RAE submission.

Research will still be important after this date, however, as the government will continue to assess "research quality" albeit with a new - and so far undefined - metrics based approach.

It's not procrastination. It's "just in time" delivery.

Nutso is the new normal.
