I know this isn't strictly what this forum is about, but it is somewhat related. I was reading this article

http://www.universityaffairs.ca/issues/2007/march_build_0207/myworld_01.html

I find the article scary! I am just getting comfortable with email!

If email is so 'last century', what measures do profs use to reach students online? Does moodle, WebCT count as more up-to-date, or are they also 'last century'?

Has anyone used MSN, facebook, My Space as part of their online teaching? Are there other formats or online networks out there to be 'up-to-date'? (I have heard of something called Community Zero that might fit the bill).

Would appreciate any thoughts on the subject of the article.
Thanks.

My students want me to text-message.  Forget it!!!  It's their responsibility to check their email, not mine to text-message.  I'm too old to expose myself to increased risk of carpel-tunnels!!!

I have colleagues who've tried facebook, etc, but I use blackboard and at least for the moment, that's where I'm staying.
