My present school is big on regalia events. I'd never bothered wearing regalia before, at any of my previous schools (either it wasn't required, or I skipped the events at which it was). When I asked about renting vs. buying, I was told renting would be fine. When I expressed concern about finding the particular color combination I needed, my department chair said "Oh, just get something pretty. The point is to look pretty."
So my regalia this year probably suggests that I attended Reed College and then pursued a double master's in economics and modern dance in Uganda. I have no idea. But look pretty? You bet.

Just go and collapse in someone's office and moan, "You've got to help me; I just
can't
be the guy who brings the ham."
