Interviewed there in the last decade, was offered a job and STUPIDLY turned them down for the second-ring-of-hell. Why? Because my advisor and all my "informal advisors" screamed: "take the bigger State U with the doctoral program!!!!! Whatever 'issues' you think you saw are minor! You can ignore them and just do your work! don't be a fool!"

Great people, nice students and I was sorry within days of signing a contract with The Other School.

I'd concur with the general congeniality of faculty at Ball State.  The campus has actually experienced a lot of new construction in the last 7 years or so, thus it is more aesthetically pleasing than it was in the past.

I know nothing about Ball State and its academics, but my uncle was involved with the college radio station for many years. He played his collection of 78s on several old Victrolas that he collected. My mom's family is from small town Indiana. Because of the Ball Canning Company they used to refer to it as Fruit Jar U.
I am afraid Muncie may be going in the direction of Terre Haute...

I know a bit about Ball State.  When at IU we used to call it "Testicle Tech".  It has a really good education program, Muncie is pretty nice and close to Indy, and from what I recall the cost of living is pretty good.  I have a colleague there in the social sciences and she raves about it, and she's picky.
