Anyone know is this place really exists? They are (oddly) seeking faculty for just about every discipline and the website and contact info seem sketchy, at best:
http://www.unica.edu.ni

Contact is:
E-mail : jobsaiihs@gmail.com
Mr. Ravishankar Bhooplapur
1400 Old Country Road
Westbury, NY 11590

Gmail account? Indian name (I think?)? Office on western Long Island? I would happily take a stab at a position in Managua, but am hesitant to send my info...

All I can say is that there is an Old Country Road in Westbury.

UNICA does exist, and in fact has a reputation for being one of the better universities in the country. If I remember right I've driven by the university when I was in Managua, though that was a few years ago. The reason they are recruiting faculty madly is probably because the pay is so miserable in general in Nicaragua. You might ring the number at the bottom of the webpage if you wonder about the bonifides of the job offer -the information presented on the site seems correct, though its hard to say about the job.

Hi.  I live in Nicaragua and can tell you the university is real, but you might think twice about coming here to live.  Can you live on very, very little money?  Are you fluent in Spanish?  Can you stand living in Managua?  I don't know what the university pays, but I do know that medical doctors make around $250 a month if they're lucky.  Managua is big, dangerous and nasty.  Other parts of Nicaragua are quite beautiful, but Managua is a huge mess.  Very few people here speak English - your students would almost certainly speak very little - so you would be expected to teach and have office hours in Spanish.  Finally, there's the money.  You could live on a few hundred dollars a month if you lived "Nica style," which means no car, no movies, no eating out, small shared accommodation, no a/c, etc.  It can be done, and it might even be a great experience and resume builder, but I'd think it over before applying.  It's a great place to visit or live short term, but a difficult place to earn money.  Good luck!
