Dear Forum,

I have been invited to several campus interviews and I have only received information about my teaching demonstration and schedule from one of these institutions.

When should I start reminding them that I'll be on campus (next week) and would like to have a little more information about my visit. I just don't want to seem pushy.

Hey, I have a similar situation.
On Jan 8 2007 I was notified by a dean's sectretary that I was selected to give a teaching demon on that university in late Jan.

Sure, I happily responded with a yes.
She asked me to send a sample syllabus, and I did that immediately.

And then I do not hear from her any more.

When is late Jan?
It is next week.
Where is my schedule???

----

But I know that several schools, including the school in question, do not begin their spring semester until next week.
(Or maybe this week)

Things must be hectic there.

If your interview is next week, I'd contact them ASAP especially if you have other interviews lined up.  You need time to prepare.

Eugenides, if you are to interview at the end of Jan to give a 'teaching demon' (sorry but the typo was a good one), have you heard when the interview will be?  Are you flying out?  Who has to make the arrangements?  Ideally you should have a few weeks notice to make the arrangements and prepare your talks.

Good luck to both of you.

Don't be too surprised if you don't get your itinerary (where you'll be staying, who you'll be meeting and when) until just a few days before your visit.  Some people/search committees are more organized than others and sometimes, regardless of organization skills, there's just a lot to coordinate (be sure to thank the department secretary if you meet him/her) and it may take longer than you'd expect.

That said --- they need to tell you as much info. as possible about any presentations you're required to give.  If you're down to a week or less before you fly out, I'd send the search committee person you've been in contact with a nice message saying how much you're looking forward to your visit and how you're looking ahead to your teaching demo and ask if they could tell you the level of the class, how long it will meet, etc.  I wouldn't think that this would come off as pushy...

Good luck!
