Just to provide an update, I haven't got a response from this university at all. I have tried to ring (no answer, so left a message), and I have sent an email enquiring about the progress, but received no reply. For a large organisation like a university this seems odd and disappointing.

It does seem rather odd not to hear anything.

I once had an interview where I heard nothing back for ages, concluded that I wasn't wanted, and mentally placed said department/uni on my list of places not to apply to ever again. Not long after that, I received a letter from the new HoD apologizing for the lack of communication which had been caused by complete chaos that had ensued after the previous HoD dropped dead.

Failing that, they could be one of those annoying few places that, if they can't get hold of you on the evening of the interview to break the bad news, don't bother sending so much as an email.
