I love this thread. Thanks for bringing it back.

I hope to receive many NMRs from our applicants this year.

Such an expensive gift.  Wait, you still don't mean Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, do you?

Thanks.  I am such a geek.

I can't remember (and am apparently too lazy to browse through this thread); was it decided whether or not CVs must be written in calligraphy?

No, no, no! Up here in cold country, it is expected that the successful candidate will personally carve the CV in the morning frost that forms on the chair's windshield. This way the chair can review the candidate's qualifications on the drive to school.

Absolutely not.  Only recommendations should be written in calligraphy.

Yes all my recommendations are done in calligraphy and illuminated in gold leaf.

Those are nice.  I sent mine to an Irish monastery to be illuminated using 7th century techniques and materials.

So should I use papyrus, parchment or calfskin?  I am thinking of engraving in marble to add some weight to my words in the future.  It is hard to fit into the envelope though.

I like vellum.  It has a nice feel to it, and it's sturdier than papyrus or parchment.  Do your research, though - if you have vegans/vegetarians on the SC (veg for ethical reasons), you could be asking for a rejection.

Marble is nice, but it costs too much to send.  Maybe we could upgrade the Clubhouse fax machine.  It already sends fluffy towels, maybe it can be made to send marble tablets?

Does marble have a carbon footprint?  Perhaps it is time to go green and use bamboo.  They make clothing out of bamboo these days, do they make bamboo paper?  Or, I'll just go with some of the handmade papers by women in Nepal.  It is really beautiful and the illuminated letters would look really nice.  Cheaper to send too.

I like bamboo.  Just watch out for bamboo slivers.  Perhaps we could bind the edges of the bamboo paper with natural fabric?

Thank you. I needed a hearty laugh this morning. In order for the chair to be able to read said carved CV, it would need to be carved backwards, of course.

Ha! I love this thread, but just to be annoying, I'll note that the terms "parchment," and "vellum" are not used interchangably, and some of those are indeed "calfskin"--thanks to DNA and other modern tests.

Now, back to the conversation.  How about printout out the cv in binary code?

I am not that much a geek, but I'm sure it's appropriate for a computer job.
