Free Software for Video Screen Capture?
«

Friends:
I want to make a little video to put up on my course site. I want to do a tour of the website for the students, a video screen capture of me clicking through the website and showing them where everything is along with audio of my voice. When I try to Google up some software for this there seems to be a lot of different programs available. I am using XP.
Thanks!

Larry,
I use Camtasia to record screen captures with voiceover for my students. They offer a 30-day free trial of the product, and the cost of the full version is not overwhelming:

I made a QuickTime video for a web training class about 8 or 10 years ago. The QuickTime software wasn't the free player, but the one that did the recording. (QT Pro?). I worked in industry at the time, so the company bought it, but it was less than $100, as I recall. I'd bet your school has a deal with Apple where you can get QT for free or cheap.

Adapting Zharkov a bit to this situation, ignorance and confusion can explain a lot.

Check out CamStudio at
http://www.camstudio.org/
. It's free.
CamStudio is nowhere near as robust as Camtasia Studio 4 or Adobe Captivate 2, but you can't beat the price.

Thanks all. I downloaded the free trial of Camtasia and I love it. I mentioned this to our Blackboard tech and she said "Oh, we have a bunch of licenses for Camtasia we purchased but haven't used, want one?" Life is good.
