I was away over Christmas. when I got home I recieved a card from the Royal Mail saying that it was unable to deliver an item of mail because the sender had not put enough postage on it.

Turned out to be my job offer.

My experience of HR people everywhere is that they're devious, under-hand, back-stabbing, penny pinching, jobs-worth scum (who'll be first against the wall come the revolution) so promising pay-rises, green-circling then blocking by stealth while the utterly useless AUT do nothing in protest would seem likely.

ps, happy new year (!)

Still flailing around with green-circling (the only consolation is that HR seem to flail more than I, actually that is not a consolation)

Despite not hearing anything back about confirmation of promotion I received a lovely email today from HR saying despite it being 'likely' I will be confirmed, I should also apply through the promotion channel as a 'back up'.

This is a bit of a pain as I need to find six referees etc etc but I am left wondering what happens if I am not either confirmed or promoted. The university-level committee that decided I ought to be a higher grade based on my work was surely not wrong. What would I do? Negotiate to give up a lot of responsibilities so I fit back where I belong?

Do I demote my responsibilities to match my grade!?

I wish I could offer advice.

Perhaps you just need to think of the England cricket team to realize that you could be in a worse situation.

It is what it is.

In the interests of getting the board active again and because, well, I am happy I thought I would update this long forgotten thread.

I heard today that I did get promoted from this August (you will recall I was advised to apply for promotion in case my previous green-circling was not confirmed). I will hear next week if I will have my green-circling confirmed (which would retrospectively apply my promotion from last August). This would have the benefit of a lump sum of back pay.

Willing to bet this will not happen in the interests of HR moneysaving and knowing I am 'captured' for the RAE. Ah well I am pleased enough not to be too bothered at the moment anyway....
