Mild panic here...reread Butterball's instructions which mentioned two plastic bags should be removed from the bird...I only have one in the fridge.  Stuffectomy performed and...no giblet bag in the bird.  Stuffing replaced.

Good afternoon scampster, malcha, zarathustra, paddington, scotia, erictho, wegie and testing!

You are a good person, zarathustra the kitty rescuer!

Happy Thanksgiving to all, even the non-celebraters, as we all have much to be thankful for, no doubt. I'm most thankful for Mr. W's complete healing from what could have easily been a fatal accident, and for Sister #2 coming around to sense earlier this year with regard to Mama.  That's enough to be starting on.

I nearly drowned in the waterbed last night. Ironic, eh? No, the bed didn't spring a leak, it's my sinuses. Oh, please, please, someone stop this madness. Ugh.

I am cooking in my pink pajamas today. Mr. W. has returned from his morning ride. I love the sound of that. So glad he's back in the saddle, even if it was a bit cold for cycling this morning.  This was his longest ride since before the accident! YEA!

Today, we have sort of a to do list and sort of a wish list.

Thanksgiving
breakfast (I'm thinking hot oatmeal will help throat/sinuses?)
put Love Actually in the DVD player for background noise

organize cooking order (I always suck at this)
chat with Mr. W.
grade 25% more of exams

bath
clean

cook
  pasta
  taters
  salad
  carrots
  steak
garlic toast (How do I brown the toast while the pie is in the oven?)
  apple pie (in oven)
eat (me + Mr. W. + neighbor/colleague)
finish grading last half of 419 exam
thingamabob #6, #7, #8, #9 (or as many as possible)
figure out what we are doing about visitation and funeral timing
figure out what we are doing about visiting Mr. W's Mom, given the prior entry
try to rest (physically) and get well
meds
collapse

Here's a listy brain dump for the rest of the semester. Will organize it better later.

I'm way too sleepy.  But I cleaned to a reasonable standard, and set up the improvised curtain in the bathroom.  Now I need to do a bit of academic thinking.  With luck it will be a couple of hours before my brother arrives.  Not that I don't like my brother (though I don't think I'd sell my soul for him), but I have to speak in two debates tomorrow and am far from prepped.

Thanksgiving 2009 is over. Guest list: my friend/colleague, her partner, and their 5-year old daughter; friend's parents; two friends/colleagues from the department, and their 3-month baby.  Menu: baked brie appetizer; turkey; mashed potato; acorn squash; totsoy; dressing; cranberry sauce; bread. For dessert: pumpkin pie; cherry pie; another dessert that I didn't get the name of; my chocolate bark. Activities:pleasant chatting; playing copious amounts of Concentration with the 5-year old;  going for an after-dinner walk; making pine cone bird feeders with 5-year old (take a pine cone, smear it with peanut butter, roll it around in bird feed, and tie a string around it).  The day offered two interesting opportunities to consider life choices. On the one hand, the baby is SO cute. It made me wish I had a baby. On the other hand, the 5-year old, while also cute, is a handful, constantly wanting people to play with her. Made me want a child not so much. :)

I'm exhausted now.

Here's my Thanksgiving break task list (actual tasks and actual completion may vary):
may vary):

Domestic
change sheets on bed
rotate mattress
do laundry 1X
go through closets/drawers
donate clothes to Salvation Army
clean bathrooms
get car inspected and oil changed
a little yardwork

Academic
read for class1
start book for spring
grade class2 papers
do stuff for D

Fun
go through magazines
go to movies
go to mall - NOT on Black Friday
finally finish fun book

Morning all!

I hope everybody in the US had a good Thanksgiving and that everybody outside the US who celebrated Thanksgiving didn't have too awful a Thursday leading up to the turkey!

Friday:

  • Coffee -- bugger. The coffee machine's just turned itself off. <glares> No, glaring at it doesn't activate the switch . . .
  • Sit around waiting for Ikea order -- due in about an hour or so
  • Whilst waiting, write up note from last night's lecture and post them on the treasure thread
  • Shower
  • Either
    • Tube
    • Raid on Borough Market
    • Pause for refreshments
    • Tube home
  • Or
    • Go down to village, assemble various bits of food and drink
    • Attempt to assemble Ikea flatpack
    • Swear a lot and pour a stiff drink
    • Continue assembly . . .
  • Watch some cricket
  • Tidy up front room
  • Dinner -- the nature of which depends on the type of shopping
  • Slump
  • Bed

Afternoon, scotia!

<shifts slightly lower on the sofa and exchanges sneers with the mess in the front room>

Verticality is proving difficult to achieve here as well!

  • Coffee -- eventually I got up and switched it on again!
  • Sit around waiting for Ikea order -- due in about an hour or so
  • Whilst waiting, write up note from last night's lecture and post them on the treasure thread
  • Shower
  • Go down to village, assemble various bits of food and drink
  • Dishwashing
  • Attempt to assemble Ikea flatpack
  • Swear a lot and pour a stiff drink
  • Continue assembly . . .
  • Watch some cricket
  • Tidy up front room
  • Dinner -- the nature of which depends on the type of shopping
  • Slump

Hi Wegie, Erictho, and Scotia!

My dog is lying on the floor with her nose pressed against the very bottom, as if she's trying to inhale the turkey through some imaginary crack or vent.  Now she's moved onto the stove...weird dog.

I haven't decided how to organize my day yet, but I definitely can't go shopping yet. But I should practice and swing by the office with the latest paint chips.

More listy listy later.  NOw I should get some coffee and walk the dog.

Good morning! 17 hours since I last ate, and I'm still a bit full. It's cloudy and drizzly today. Thankfully I'm not one of the crazies who shops on Black Friday.

With both a "Criminal Minds" marathon and a "Law & Order" marathon on today, I need to think carefully about what I can reasonably get done today. I think I can go through my closets, change sheets and rotate mattress while watching television!

Good morning zarathustra, paddington, scotia, erictho, and wegie!

Still feeling icky. I plan to stay in the recliner and work on the computer while trying to breathe and also watching the big football game.

Today, we have sort of a to do list and sort of a wish list. I feel like using bullets today.

Friday
  • wake
  • crawl to recliner
  • breakfast
  • figure out what we are doing about visitation and funeral timing
  • figure out what we are doing about visiting Mr. W's Mom, given the funeral stuff and my ickyness
  • finish grading last quarter of 419 exam
  • thingamabob #6, #7, #8, #9 (or as many as possible)
  • lunch
  • watch ball game
    • (I'm cheering for one team and Mr. W. is cheering for another, it could be ugly. Thankfully, it only happens once a year.)
  • try to rest (physically) and get well
  • supper
  • meds
  • collapse

Here's a listy brain dump for the rest of the semester. Will organize it better later.

Apple has their ipod touch on sale. With free shipping. Today only.  A sign?

I'm too full - or maybe I'm just bloated - to exercise just yet. Maybe later today. But the day will/should go as follows:

soon: get off butt and move upstairs
next: take off sheets, rotate mattress
then: go through drawers and closets
followed by: exercise and shower?
subsequently: hungry yet?
and: see where things stand for the day

Here's my Thanksgiving break task list (actual tasks and actual completion may vary):
