I've always been curious who on the academic fora watches Jim Cramer.

I think of this because I watched him last night, and bought a few shares of Melco. My cost basis is 20.35, so I'm down a buck. It looks like it's trying to turn itself around, and if it doesn't I'm going to sell it and take the loss. I was thinking it would be good to hold over Christmas since I won't be home, and I'll only be able to contact my broker via phone (I have a downloaded platform that I can't access anywhere but at home).

Now I'm thinking--How stupid are you? Why would you listen to Cramer? He said it would go to $40, and investing in gambling in Macau did seem like a good idea when I pulled the trigger. Now, I am ashamed of myself for buying the damn thing because of a Cramer rec.

Any thoughts? Stay in or get out? (I wish Yahoo would create stock boards for IPOs) and turn off Cramer!

Put a reasonable Stop Loss on it and let it run.  I suspect the market will be down today and tomorrow for the holidays and that next week will be light trading.

I like to listen to Cramer on the radio, the television show is too much for me.

I think Cramer's premice is that he has a position on all of his recommendations - maybe not.  But if he thinks it'll go to $40, I'd wager he didn't mean this week.

Hey, I'm in the green with Melco. Maybe it does go to 40.

Oh, yuck.  That Nazi?  Two seconds of his red-faced screaming and I'm done.  Off to the Sportpalais with you, Cramer.

He's one of my people: manic depressive. I have it from a reliable source. I acutally like the show, I just don't always trust his picks.

I never understood Seinfeld.  When I tried watching, I smiled out of a subconscious response to the laugh track than out of real pleasure.  The humor, it just *zoom* goes right over head.

I prefer The Simpsons.

Woah, absent-minded professor moment.  Untenured just took the express train to flakesville.  Toot toot.

I watch Cramer.  I can't tell if the guy is giving us real analysis or belching out what the corps want him to or analyst PR.

If he can deliver real content while being interesting at the same time, all the better!

Booyah, Untenured.

Back in the summer of '05, I was carrying on about a job I wanted in the Leaving Academe section of the fora. The job was actually with Cramer as the show's writer.

I had written him all these emails trying to get his attention, and evidently I did because they called me in for an interview. I went through 3 interviews with flying colors and then got to Cramer and his producer-at-that-time, who obviously didn't want any other women around. I didn't get the job, but the thing that pissed me off the most was that Cramer used every single idea I had from my emails.

Anyway, probably just as well. He really is manic depressive. Sits in his office all day depressed and then is manic on the show, but I heard also very hard to work with--as we types often are.

He has a research staff there, though. He doesn't do all the research himself, and sometimes he comes up with his ideas the day of the show. That said, I think he knows a lot about the fundamentals of trading stocks. Also, he introduces people to stocks they may not know about. His stock of the year, ATI, really was a blockbuster.

Booyah,

Okay--so the Cramer pick of Melco is actually working out. I'm up a little over a buck. MPEL is at 21.45.

Just for those interested--Cramer actually comes on the Yahoo Finance boards--often on GOOG. His moniker is Jim_Cramer_Booyah. I have this information from a reliable source--that that's his moniker--I see him on the stock boards.
