OP, for crying out loud. Remember, it's not who you know, it's who you ****. Ok, seriously, the SC shouldn't have dropped the hints the did, but if you think you would otherwise get along, then don't worry about it. People get jobs because of who they know, worked with, favors owed their advisor, looks, sexual attraction, their scholarship and contributions to the field, being "on" when all others interviewing were "off," being married or single, being straight or gay, being short, fat, balding, etc.
The point is discrimination shouldn't happen but it does. Favors shouldn't work in the other direction but it does. Affirmative Action is in place to balance the field, not to promote those who aren't qualified.
And until women get promoted to a position they aren't qualified for and get paid too much, there will be no balance between the sexes.
This goes for race, ethnicity, creed, etc.
Go with it! After you get the offer, and of course, after you determine if this offer is better than any others you may receive.
