If I am trying to study Spanish abroad, does it really matter if the transfer credits count at my school?  I am really not concerned about getting credits, I am more concerned with being able to study in a particular area. The problem is that my school will not accept credits from the university, PUCMMA in Dominican Republic.  Doesn't it still look just as good on a resume to study abroad for a summer?  I was thinking about just enrolling directly to a dominican university for the summer and returning to my university at the open of the normal fall semester.

It will be good to have the Spanish skills, no matter how it looks on a resume.

And study abroad does set you apart since only a fraction of the college students do that, I think it is about 10-12% these days.  So it won't hurt you, the language skills will serve you well and some places will be impressed by the fact that you studied abroad, even if not for credit.  I'd do it if I were you.

"That's a great deal to make one word mean," Alice said in a thoughtful tone.
"When I make a word do a lot of work like that," said Humpty Dumpty, "I always pay it extra."
