Here's the address of the Wiki where academic job seekers can post information about the status of searches in various disciplines:

Hey folks! Let's start posting to the wiki!

(by which I mean: I've only received one rejection, and deafening silence from many other potential jobs - so I don't have much to post. But I would be endlessly grateful if all you fine applicants who are getting interviews would update the wiki & take the rest of us off tenterhooks)

Hi All,
Sorry for this, but I've never used the Wiki, let alone posted on it. And since my field is not represented at all, how do I add it to the list, and then add the schools which I have heard from under that tab?

Thanks

Urgh.  Whoever is out there doing it, stop updating the wiki before me!  I got my first rejection letter today, and I was all pumped up about updating the wiki, and someone else apparently got their rejection yesterday.

Okay then.

That's the attitude, Trabb. You're not mad about the rejection, just that you didn't get to update the wiki first!

I had an experience opposite to Trabb's about being first to post a rejection on the wiki.  Yesterday, I posted my first rejection letter of the season on the wiki--and was the first to record that rejections had been sent from that school.  Was really a rather loser-ish sensation.  When I looked at the wiki today and found that another soul had also posted a rejection for the same job, I felt joined by a comrade.  Raised a mental beer to a fellow sufferer.  And I'm not even much a beer drinker.  Go figure.

Very timely, and a great idea!

Incidentally, I got my first rejection just a few hours before I found the wiki, and that particular job posting was already listed on the wiki as having sent out rejections. Then again, I hadn't expected to be seriously considered for it, given that about a week after I applied, they re-posted the job ad.  :-)

let's not think of them as rejections.
They are helping us refine our plans, and rule out stuff that isn't right for us.
ok. I know. But some days it helps!

Should I be adding information by date or alphabetically?  Just want to do the right thing (in case the karma matters at this crucial time).

One vote for alphabetical by school.

This is an interesting study in personalities.  I carefully arranged the schools I posted in order by the date that materials were due.  Some stinker then came along later and rearranged all of my careful work alphabetically.  Humbug on hu!

If you check the thing every day then listing by date makes things go faster.  If you have to look through all the schools to find the new one it gets annoying (at least for the lower stuff like interviews.  I think keeping the schools by name is fine for the listing section at the top, assuming you are checking the bio WIKI). My 2.1 cents (inflation)

I'll see your 2.1 cents.

If the long list is alphabetical, I don't really care what the shorter lists are.  I didn't apply to all of the positions on the wiki so I'm not familiar with some of the dates.

And I thought the dates were supposed to be date of posting, not due dates.  Or is that only for the progress sections?

Yes, the posting was suppose to reflect the date of post, although for the section on ads it makes little sense to post that way (I already know of a job not due until early next year, I'm not going to post until then, why post if it causes others to apply for a job I really want?).

Last night someone posted the following question and response on the "Have you heard?" Wiki:

"How many interviews do you have so far?
10 (12/7)"

I'm wondering how this is useful information?  At best it will make a few "superstars" feel good about themselves and at worst rub salt into an already-gaping wound.  I posted a response to this comment saying as much and asking if we really wanted to do this to one another.  This morning my comment was deleted, while the original question and answer is still there.

The question is particularly disturbing since the previous two comments on the Wiki specifically address how demoralizing this entire process can be.  Seemed to me to be bad form indeed.
