I have no idea.  Maybe there was a link to a non-academic site in AngelParker's post.

I thought your response was pretty funny, FWIW.

Oh, yeah!  I was making fun of the post!  I wish I could remember what the "whole human anatomy" thing was about. . .

For folks in the MLA field:

http://wikihost.org/wikis/academe/programm/gebo.prg?name=gebo:activity

More scratch pads about 2008-9 searches. Please update!

Consonants:  if this is your first year on the job market, then you missed the drama of The Great Migration last year to the other wikiscratchpad site, the one that's blue.  I believe most (all?) of the MLA fields were moved over there because the other site is designed to foil vandalism.  If someone vandalizes the site -- by deleting all the information on a given page, for example -- it has been stored in the history of the page and all the information can be restored easily (it also provides the IP address of the person who committed the vandalism).  The link you provided above does not have that safeguard (so far as I know).  I'm not on the market this year, so if anyone has other info. that's more accurate than this, please inform.

The wikihost pages are having ongoing problems, whether this is sabotage or a system glitch, I don't know.
But you can find most fields listed here

Canadia -- I'm curious to know what you noticed that seemed fishy:  information disappearing?  I looked only briefly at the history of the last series of edits, and it looked pretty normal to me.  But these are not pages I'm checking myself daily.

The old wikihost.org sites are erased, at least in most MLA fields that I had bookmarked.

The scratchpad.wikia.com sites seem to be all good.

Ah, ok.  That makes sense.  Maybe the scratchpad site is demolishing the competition?

jacaranda, that was my thought. But who profits from a wiki like scratchpad?

Oh, they both run advertising -- and I'm sure they would be very depressed to know that we don't even notice!  Scratchpad is obviously doing pretty well since they now have clients posting flash ads.

Have the French job-seekers started a new page on the new site? I tried saving the last pre-vandal version on the old site but it didn't stick.

I think all the pages on wikihost have changed url, but aren't lost. Basically, take out the "/wiki" after "academe." Most of them are linked from here, as of today, at least:

I know it's been raised before, but dagnabbit... I friggin' hate it when I introduce people to the wiki and THEY DON'T UPDATE!!!!

And then they go on my facebook and say how wonderful it is for them to be able to "move beyond Dream U" and focus on other things.

Aren't there... like... OTHER PPL WHO COULD USE THE SAME CLOSURE????

In the last week I've introduced 5 job candidates and not one has updated the wiki.

I can understand if your entire dept. knows you applied to X job and you don't want to talk about it in the hall. Fine.

But update the rest of them.
