Thank you to all of those who followed and participated in the significant (pre-registration system) discussions of affirmative action on these fora over the past several years.

The predicted victory is now evident.  Those who oppose illegal racial / gender preferences, which violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, have met with resounding success in Tuesday's Michigan election.

No longer will  illegal race-based and gender-based hiring and admissions take place in the name of "affirmative action" and "diversity."  No longer will Michigan's citizens be subject to the crude, quasi-socialist attempts at social engineering, which were the true motivations for illegal manifestations of AA.  No longer will there be bloody infighting among approved ethnic and gender groups for the biggest slice of the AA pie.

Truly, the Michigan decision is a great victory for Justice and Equity.  It is also, in fact, a victory for real diversity--which is IN NO WAY defined by the arcane racial/gender categories utilized in the name of affirmative action.  True diversity is a celebration of human individuality; it cannot be quantified in absurd governmental categories.

And perhaps most importantly, the Michigan decision is a victory for Americans of all ethnicities and genders who are admitted to academic institutions, or hired for governmental contracting, in the great state of Michigan.  No longer must AA-admittees and AA-hires bear the brand of stigmatization--the searing burn of AA--for the rest of their lives.  No longer must AA-admittees and AA-hires live with the knowledge that, in many cases, a more qualified candidate was turned down, so that their AA hire/admission could be instantiated.

Now all citizens in Michigan will be admitted to higher education and employed based on their merits.  They will feel the pride of their success--a true success, which is not a hand-out.  They will continue their fine work, and not endure the bitter worry that their success is simply a function of skin color or genitalia.  Indeed, success will now be assuredly a function of "the content of their characters."

In fact, the Michigan decision reifies LEGAL afiirmative action, as manifest in the true and venerable goals of Executive Order 11246, which specified that "affirmative action" be taken to attract under-represented candidates into an applicant pool, but did not allow any privileging based on gender/ethnicity in the actual hiring/admissions process.  It was this illegal privileging which harmed so many human beings, in so many ways, while illegal affirmative action practices were allowed to be continued.

And quite notably, even in the course of these illegal AA practices, the entire illegal procedure itself was an unmitigated failure.  For decades, white women were admitted and hired in vast numbers, to the exclusion of approved "minorities."  The very illegal system which was worshipped by the deluded as a vehicle for "equal opportunity," became the mechanism which DENIED opportunities.   And once the numeric excess of thousands upon thousands of white women hired/admitted under affirmative action became abundantly clear--so clear that it could not be denied, illegal AA procedures suddenly began to illegally privilege "minorities" in greater numbers.  Then many white women, en masse, succeeded in shifting the burden of their own AA stigmatization onto the shoulders of the AA-"minorities." In a process of remarkable self-deception, these white women denied that they ever received AA.  They denied they had received AA, and offered as proof of that denial, the WHITENESS of their skin...  In this day and age, a more disgusting governmental-approved racial division can scarcely be imagined.

But all that is over now.  The slate is now clean.  The coast is clear.

And of course, the Michigan decision against illegal affirmative action proves so much of what was expressed on these fora, and read by so many.  It proves the success of all efforts herein.

It is a great day for Education.  It is a great day for America.

God bless America

And thank you all again for your participation...

Well put. Let's just hope this spreads to more states. Enough is enough. Despite what the (now thankfully gone) justice o'conner says, AA has already been around too long now.

People should be assessed on their abilities, academic/experience credentials and accomplishments. Period. Nothing else should every be relevant.
