Teaching English in Japan, China, or Korea

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to look for a legitimate job teaching English as a Foreign Language in the abova nations. What's the best way to search for available jobs while still in the US? Which schools give the best benefits, housing, pay, etc? What's the average required teaching time (ie: 6 months, 1 year, etc)? Which areas should I avoid for safety reasons? Does knowing the language increase my chance of getting the job? Thanks in advance.

The FAQs for each of those countries (and don't forget Taiwan) at eslcafe.com are a good place to start. If you have a master's or PhD, check
http://jrecin.jst.go.jp/index_e.html
for jobs in Japan.
