I became an admissions counselor immediately after graduating with my BBA.  I worked in undergrad admissions for about a year and a half before moving into the corporate sector.  After about two years, I have decided that higher ed is where my passion is and want to begin developing a career in enrollment management/university administration.  I am currently working with the recruitment of adult students at a public, 4-year institution.  Additionally, I am in the middle of an MBA program.

What advice would anyone have regarding advancement in this area?  Should I begin looking at higher education degree progams (masters or doctoral level)?  Any pearls of wisdom would greatly be appreciated.

Complete your MBA with an emphasis in marketing.  To be frank, 80 percent of US colleges are non-selective, and in a non-selective college, admissions is essentially marketing.

While completing your MBA, do a good job in you present assignment while looking opportunities for breadth in admission. Say, work with traditional age undergrads. Look for opportunities to work on projects like marketing a new program or supporting re-accreditation.

If possible, developing a mentoring relationship with the director of admissions, and also develop networking skills within and beyond admissions.
