High Praise from Students

Towards the end of a debate in fresh comp today - one that was very difficult for the students to work through (it's a good one: ask them to justify how a marriage certificate makes a couple together 7 years any different or better than a couple who is simply living together for 7 years) to produce logical, well-explained examples and analysis, one student grumbled: You're too hard. You make us think too much and work too much.
Yipee! My heart soared. And I responded: Thank you. That means I'm doing my job.

I think that means you're doing your job
very well
. I think I'm doing my job when I get "You make us think..." The "too much" part is icing on the cake!

Well, it all depends on the level of university and the objective of your department. Say the methodology will be different at Harvard compared with a community college.
