Trashing the Pres 'Fore He/She Gets There

The case I saw in 2002 concerned one of the teaching SUNYs. Some of the (not particularly accomplished) faculty and especially one of the deans at this isolated place started trashing the president in faculty retreats (in the dean's case anyway) before he even arrived. I think that the dean in question was paranoid he'd lose the $100,000 a year nut he had been getting to prepare for AACSB accreditation. The new pres indeed proved to be a little ham-handed (being forceful was probably necessary though in this work-another-job-on-the-side-don't show-up-on-Friday campus), but subsequent faculty and admisistrator behavior was distinctly scurrilous. Following a vote of no-confidence by the faculty (orchestrated from above), deans and provost resigned. Students were dragged into this mess, and one operated a disgraceful website, absolutely devoid of any real critical content-- completely libelous.
The fact that these blogs now preceed presidential arrival isn't a suprise.
