One can always find nuts to argue extreme views.  Big deal.  The point stands, and certainly is reflective of the treatment I receive here.

Very true particularly when you call Coulter and Limbaugh "nuts [arguing] extreme views."

But of course you are aware that Coulter was a major speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference at which she referred to John Edwards as a ***.  And you are no doubt aware that last week our vice-president was on Limbaugh's to announce that Iraq had ties to al-Quaida on the very day that the Pentagon issued a detailed study refuting that claim.

And sometimes you bring it on yourself. Go back and look it the "Sure you can move in with me" discussion in the "Balancing work and life" forum to see what I mean.

I am not a nut, sir.  Nothing I have said anywhere here suggests differently, sir.

kay, kay, kay...

Why do you do this to yourself?

It's like you put out your own "kick me" sign, then complain about being kicked, then come back for more!

(And you know I've never kicked you, bud. But I definitely don't understand your motivations.)

I said that you bring things on yourself, sometimes.

I referred you to a specific thread. The one in which you tell another poster to "shut up" when you completely misunderstood was the person posted.

I never said you were a nut.

I am done playing your games, however.

We can get into silly arguments about who's an 'evangelical', my dear.   Let us for the sake of argument say an evangelical is one who says he is one, or a church that says it is  (this is obviously not true, but let us say it is).  On that basis alone, it is clear from church history that the vast majority of evangelical Churches have not observed 'Holy Week', perhaps with the exception of Easter itself.  Sadly, too many 'evangelicals' are deeply ignorant of church history, which, amongst other errors, renders them susceptible to proselytization for ignorance on internet chat boards.

To be clear, when I said "evangelical", I meant the standard definition: a member of one of the churches that grew out of the evangelical movement of the 19th century, which followed from the revivalist movement of the late 18th century.  Evangelicals typically place emphasis on the conversion experience, aka "being saved" or "born again".
Fundamentalists historically rise those folllowing "The Fundamentals" , a series of volumes published about 1915, and the fundamentalist movement started in the Presbyterian church. Most, but not all, fundamentalists believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible.

K16, of the two of us only one seems ignorant of church history, and it is not me.  Don't you work in a library?  You could probably look up these definitions; if you disagree, provide a citation.

I've been lurking for a while, really enjoying the "favorite" student emails everyone has been posting.  I must say that it's been quite comforting to read all of these crazy emails, as it's nice to know I'm not the only one who receives these things!

I received one today that I thought might be fun to share.  Basically, I've organized a student event, and one of the students sent me an email today to ask me to send her an individual reminder just prior to the event, because (to paraphrase) she's just too busy to remember to come on her own.  (!)

I got a student email today: the student wanted me to know that she is sick, and she thought that if I didn't  let me know that, I might think she was taking an extra day for Easter, but she isn't.

I do not have to cite a citation, else you are right.  Your definition of evangelical is simplistic, and your definition of fundamentalist lacking completely.  And, given the two of us, in a test of church history knowledge, I would whoop your butt with both hands tied behind my back and eyepatches over both eyes.

Sorry, CI.  You are right.  But it is hard to resist playing "Wack-a-Mole" on K16.  Endlessly entertaining.

Oh, oh! I've got one. I can't believe a student wrote this:

Hey [Grassy],

I've never used MLA before so I'm using "The little, brown compact handbook" as a style guide. I'm a little uncertain about the paranthetical citation. When it comes to the work cited page, books, journals etc. are all cited differently. However, it seems as though for paranthetical citation it's last name then page number (no comma) books AND journals. This seems normal for a book- but even journal articles? It just seems weird to me, so i wanted to make sure.

Also, I was sick and missed class Wed. Was there anything pertinant about the paper? (I know about the changed due date already)

Thanks in advance,

[Excellent Student]

Can you believe the nerve? Asking me for help?

Pfft.

I know, I know.  But blame it on jackie_d.  She got me hooked on boomshine, a gateway drug to the need for ever more mindless sources of flashing lights and noises.
