Ok, I had to post one. Boy, I had to do some digging to find it. Here it is: If you can understand it, let me know!

the thought of not passing is haunting my mind as work on the assignment, should I throw in the towel? Should I just fail and pay for the course and take again. To tell you the true I was pour equipped in understand what I read it is like listen to talk in a different language it is beautiful and all but there is no meaning.

There is no salutation or ending signature.

Most of our students would do better in class if they were not so equipped.

I will be pour equipped in a couple of hours, but it's Saturday, man.

Well don't keep us in suspense. Did he throw in towel just fail pay for course and take again? Or was it beautiful with no meaning?

That last sentence sounds like poetry to me.

HI Mrs. Lastname

I wanted to let you know that i am missing Fridays class because i need catch the bus at 11:30 to get to [name of big city airport] before my flight. I was hoping not to miss your class but this is the only time I can get out of here and not miss my flight home. I was wondering because i am missing the writing assignment i was hoping i could possible do it before i Friday, or just make it up? Well people let me know.

Thanks

The weird part is in bold? what about the other odd bits?
The other odd bits are entirely in keeping with previous emails I've received from this particular student (I think some of them may be posted earlier in the thread).

He failed. He is now taking it again. He emailed me again...to see if I could send him his papers he actually did submit...so that he could resubmit them to the current instructor. I declined.

He wants to resubmit failing papers.  Slow learner, huh?

I'm amused that Docme's student apparently didn't keep copies of his work.

Did you also send him your University's policy on academic dishonesty?  Ours, at least, specifically lists the resubmission of one's own work as a violation of academic integrity.  If your Uni's policy doesn't discuss this, you could send him a link to the plagiarism materials on turnitin's companion website, plagiarism.com, which does list this sort of double-dipping as plagiarism.

[No salutation]
i wish i could say i had some good news and some bad news, but instead i have two pieces of bad news:

1.  it totally slipped my mind to tell you this last week, but i won't be here friday.  i have to go home this weekend for my school's homecoming.  sorry!!  i'm leaving thursday afternoon.  does that mean i'll need to practice double for the next lesson?

2.  how tragic would it be if i couldn't go to the thing on march 1st?  :-/  i totally forgot about this b/c i don't have it written down in my planner, but i'm supposed to be going camping that weekend.  if you need me to stay that's totally fine.  and i still might stay anyway.  i have to check into everything.  but just wondering how you felt about that

i am so sorry.  i hope this email didn't depress you too much...  :)  have a wonderful night

I guess in this case, the smiley face is in place of "lol"

Update:  The student here actually decided NOT to go camping and did come to "the thing" yesterday on March 1.  Actually, she ended up helping me out with some of the details once we got there.

Oh yes, we had many emails about submitting original work for original assignments, blah blah blah. I filled out a report on him....and let the powers that be handle him. Honestly, he won't make it. He just doesn't have it. Not yet, anyway. Later, motivation will hopefully hit him in the head.

A variant on the "but you don't deserve a life" emails:
Friday 10:30 PM, a perfectly reasonable:
Dear Dr Cara,
Would you be willing to write a letter of reference for me for X grant?
Thank you, Student

Then (WTF?), Sunday morning 10 AM:
Dear Dr Cara,
Could you please confirm that you have received my email?
Student  (previous email was then pasted below)

As well as it being a mere 36 hours, and a weekend, I was away at a conference. You know what my letter of reference is going to say now....

Perhaps the student was just worried that your email filter might have blocked him or her, or fretting that if s/he was going to have to solicit a letter from somone instead of you, she would need to know soon so as to not unduly burden the other writer.

Of course, had s/he seen you in person to ask for the letter, as local students really ought to do, s/he would have had immediate confirmation one way or the other. Email is not a good medium for important communication. - DvF

I wish...but our email filters don't block messages from within our own system unless we specify by individual (which I haven't had to do yet). And surely the normal thing to say in such a case would have been "Please can you confirm that you have received my email because I am worried there is a problem with my email account/ because I am worried my message may have been filtered." Nope--this one just thinks the sun shines out of, well, you know.
