No offense, but am I missing something about Yuengling? I bought a six-pack of it the other week because the supermarket has no beer worth paying more than $7 for, and the stuff was pretty awful (reminds me of the old joke: what does this beer have in common with having sex in a canoe?) Did five years in the Pacific Northwest just turn me into a hopeless beer snob?

For the record, I think yuengling is gross. I'd rather save even more money and drink miller lite or bud lite. But people who grew up in the PA/Ohio region think it's nectar of the gods. I grew up in Boston, so I had a lot of other options.

However, I am pleasantly surprised at their black and tan. Not stellar, but definitely drinkable, and for $5 a six-pack, terrific!

Maybe I'll give that a try this week. Normally I just get Sam Adams, which is a bit overpriced here but still a reasonable cost/quality balance, but I was feeling bored with it. Otherwise, here in the Land of Bad Beer, there are a bunch of craptastic local microbrews for ~$9 a six-pack, and something good like Anchor Steam is $10+. Lord what I'd give for a Deschutes Black Butte Porter or even an Alaskan Amber....

See, I find Yuengling to be significantly better than Bud or Miller Lite.  Tragically, the only good beers (not Keystone/Miller/Bud 24-packs) are $2/bottle or $9 for a six-pack.  There are a few exceptions; I think Killian's Irish Red is between $7 and $8 for a six-pack.  But mostly it's pretty expensive.

Now, Keystone Light is to me the worst offender in the Canoe Love category.  You can tell that the Yuengling people know what hops are, at least.

I'll give you that, Conjugate. Yuengling is superior to bud lite. But I still cringe to spend a buck a beer on it.

I've been spoiled. My little local grocery has had a constant sale on Saranac 12-packs ($13). I can get the trail mix OR the winter sampler for this amount, and at $6.50 a six pack, it's only .50 more than yuengling, and an easy $2-3 cheaper than my go-to sam adams or spatan oktoberfest.

Today, it's a six-pack of saranac "season's best" - a nut brown lager that's just perfect to go with football.

I wouldn't say that Yuengling is the nectar of the gods, not by a long shot.   It's the cheapest beer that I'll willingly drink, and in a lot of bars and restaurants in my area it's the only real beer (i.e. not fermented on rice and corn) on tap. I will not stoop to consuming Bud/Busch/Coors/Miller/etc  Oh, and despite growing up east of Pittsburgh, I don't drink Iron City or Rolling Rock either.  Penn Brewing, however, is worth consideration.

I am currently working on a Magic Hat "Roxy Rolles" autumn seasonal.

Oh, and despite growing up east of Pittsburgh, I don't drink Iron City or Rolling Rock either.

I can't drink Rolling Rock without simultaneously tasting ramen noodles, cheap bread and other vestiges of grad student poverty. When I moved to the Deep South I thought that I had fled from the land of Rolling Rock and the faux-mysterious "33" imprinted on the bottle (not to mention the stupid "I pronounce you man and beer" commercials.) Nope - first beer a native offered me was something that just started to appear in the stores there: a "Rollin' Rock"...

Okay, I have procured a Yuengling Black and Tan. Nothing really to write home about, but at least I feel like I'm getting my $5.50's worth.

Saranac, yum. I was still underage when I last lived in Saranac territory, not that it stopped me much.

I don't know if I'm plastered so much as fairly relaxed. I was hoping to save appearing on this thread for the weekends, but it's that point in the semester where I wonder if there is a minimum daily requirement for wine, and if so, if I'm getting enough...

So, technically I'm not plastered (I'm at work, which is quite a bit different).  But I am excited because I found a 12-pack of Killian's Irish Red for $9.00.  That's considerably cheaper than the other beers I'd seen, and I am fond of Killian's.

OK first Yuengling, and now Killians? Why don't you just start swilling Rolling Rock or Honey Brown and call it a day?

;)

I'm surprised you regard Killians as that inferior.  It has significantly more body than the usual glop.  Besides, I'm looking to be able to afford to drink, which (at $2.00/bottle for the good stuff) is challenging at times.

For some reason, I thought honey brown, rolling rock, and killians were all brewed by the same company. Now that I look at it, I realize they're not.

Then I remembered that I stopped drinking Killians because I found out they were brewed by Coors. And I hate Coors. But I'm being snooty and judgmental for my own enjoyment. I certainly don't want to impact yours.

Or, "harsh your squee" or whatever. Drink up, conjugate!

Aw, here's to hoping the grocery store doesn't run out of pinot noir!

I had two margaritas tonight and a glass of dessert wine (for dessert). I also just spent $70 online. I don't think these two facts are unrelated.
