Had him and friends over and put away 4 bottles of champagne.

I've actually gone from always wanting to try new craft beers to just sticking with cheap, satisfying, light beer.  I did recently hear about Duvel, a Belgian beer I want to try.  Has anyone seen the new Sam Adams beer, Utopias, 200 dollars a bottle?

I've heard about it but have never seen or tasted it - it originally came out in 2002. The folks at Sam Adams had been breeding their yeast to produce and survive in a higher alcohol concentration than normal (usual beer yeast die at 12-15% alcohol), and managed to get a yeast that would make beer with 24-27% alcohol.  I understand that the bottles were 3L or so, and that they were priced by the company at around $100, and collectors scooped them all up and so the $200+ price was a result of the beer-bottle equivalent of sports-ticket scalping.  I haven't heard anything about Sam Adams making a new batch of Utopia.  I must admit I'm quite curious about it, but it's rather out of my price range.

Tonight, I had one rum punch and now I'm having a few beers.  I'm celebrating "vacation."

Duvel is good stuff. I think it means "devil" in a particular Dutch dialect.

Ditto.  Which means drinking starts...now.

Drinking an excessively large gin Martini, and celebrating (i) freedom from the daily grind for four days and (ii) a veritable stack of publication offers that have reaffirmed my belief in myself as a researcher.

Congrats!

White wine is gone and I'm saving the red for dinner tomorrow.  I may have to sleep and get more properly bamboozled tomorrow.

Pinot Grigio, a white Burgundy, a white Bordeaux, and then some Sangria... Went to eat at Sweet and Savory with a group of friends.  Damn good food.  Everybody brought wine (the Burgundy was ours).  Ended up at Las Tablas...  Great band there.  What?  Me tipsy?  Nooooo...

I'm considering busting out the Bloody Marys right now.  We're heading over to the in-laws' for Thanksgiving number 2, and they're so much more fun when I'm buzzed.

I love Mondays.  Belgian beer, now a bit of Laphroaig.

The semester *is* over, isn't it?

All I can say is "blerg".  Rainy day, grant proposal revisions due tomorrow, give me more wine.
