Is there an internet forum for UK academics to discuss, a UK equivalent of the Chronicle fora? The Times Higher Education Supplement doesn't seem to have one (unless I'm blind). Thanks.

THES used to have one, but it wasn't very well used, and they took it down a while back - there weren't too many regular users, IIRC, and most of the posts were either single, unanswered queries or emanated from the resident troll. Maybe UK academia feels too small for anonymity?

A great idea - as editor of the Guardian Education website (educationguardian.co.uk) I'd be keen to discuss setting up a forum for UK academics. The site has already hosted some fairly vigorous discussion, notably on this year's pay dispute, and seems the natural place for a forum.

I agree. I enjoyed the blogs on the pay dispute. Although I'd be much more careful about preserving my anonymity on a UK site.... |

Great idea, guardian -- I feel the lack of a UK version of the Chronicle fora daily. Just today someone sent me a query about applying for a job and I could only give them US-specific advice that I'd got from these fora, rather than something that made sense within the UK context.
(And how nice it would be to have a site where recurrent claims about the general worthlessness of UK PhDs did *not* come up with mind-numbing regularity.)

The Graun talkboards do have an education folder, though it's something of an outback. And <ahem, Don> it takes ages to register a new username. A separate Graun education talkboard would be great though.
