Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do with leftover business cards?  I have approximately 497 from last job, 482 from the one before that, 476 from the one before that, and 997 from my old TT job.  I suppose they're recyclable, but the artist in me keeps insisting that there must be something more creative to do with them.

Build a house of cards?

Glue them into stacks of ten, and then you can build something more substantial with the business-card bricks.

Or, tile a wall with them, then paint the wall Jackson Pollock style.

I use old ones for short shopping lists or notes. They're easy to slip into a pocket.

How earth-friendly!  I like it!

Fun ideas!  I'd have to do an awful lot of shopping, though, to use them all up as grocery lists (but it is a good idea, nevertheless).  Too bad they aren't waterproof--I could build a birdhouse or cobble together a patio umbrella from them, too!  Now the wheels are turning...

You could make a kid game like Memory (have two matching pictures, colors, letters of the alphabet etc. on the blank side of the card) or mini flash cards.

Oh wow!!  Great suggestion, notaprof!  My niece asked me recently if I'd be interested in tutoring her daughter over the summer (first-grader going on to second, who's shown some weakness in math); if I do so, I will definitely make use of some of the cards that way.

P.S.--When I told my niece that I would prefer to be paid for my tutoring service, she scoffed at the idea, sadly.  I might still be able to do some practice sessions with the grand-niece, though, just for fun, and to help the kid along (heaven knows her Mom isn't interested in helping...oy!).

I imagine that you could build the birdhouse and then thoroughly coat it with something waterproof - an acrylic glaze, or epoxy, or something like that.

Also, I think this is pretty cool, and solves the original business card case problem. Well, half of it, anyway.

Nope. Have some stuck in the little pocket on my fake leather portfolio, and wrap a bunch in a rubber band and put them in my coat pocket.

I would suggest learning to throw them like little paper ninja throwing stars (I would say shuriken, but some wise guy would say they're sure I can't) except that having your name and contact information on something you're going to use as a weapon seems like a poor idea.

You could print Zener card patterns on the unused side and use them to debunk ESP claims.  You could also use them to win the classic bar bet about being able to cut a hole in a business card big enough to pass your body through (and I would provide a link, but have no idea if one even exists, and I decline to try to explain without figures; if I ever meet you in RL, ask about it and bring an unneeded card).

Take five or so of them and glue them together.  A total of 495 cards should give you 99 bricks once this is done.  Stand these glued-together bricks of old business cards on end like dominos, and do something enthusiastically silly as shown on this video.

I'm sure there are lots more interesting ideas, like taping a bunch together end-to-end to create a Möbius strip.

Unfortunately, I think conjugate gives good advice.

No need for glue, apparently: http://theiff.org/oexhibits/paper06.html

I cut them into strips for when I need new little bits of paper for hanging file labels.

That should use up at least a half dozen a year.
