Hi,

This special issue of The Chronicle is long overdue. It's a painfully informative issue.  Our college is about the launch a "Ready or Not?" Online Drop Box for assessing college readiness in writing. College English instructors will read and assess essays submitted by high school students. Here's the link to the site.

Let me know what you think. We officially "launch" the site next Monday. We have funding for 300 submissions. This is a seven-week pilot with six selected high schools. Let me know if you have any questions.

Onward and into the thicket.

This program looks innovative and potentially very exciting.  How are you coordinating with high school English teachers, if at all?  Are there any follow-up options for students who take the assessment and are found to be wanting?  (Will there be suggested remedial courses?)

Best of luck with the program.

Hey, thanks for the support of the website. We officially launch the site today. The six selected high schools have received procedural training on the drop box submission process. The high school English teachers are all "on board" with their respective submission windows and submission maximums. The site is not intended to assess for placement into college courses. It is intended to give high school students an objective, accurate assessment of their college-readiness writing skills.  We also will collect data on high frequency errors for each school.
