What is it like to work in Puerto Rico? Quality of schools, equipment, research, funding, quality of life, affordability?

Not sure about the long-term. I had a student in Luquillo for about 3 years collecting samples from the forest and he loved it.  I go over whenever I can usually for a couple of weeks only tho' but the atmosphere of the place certainly lifts the weight off ones shoulders.
It can be a bit un-nerving when one stops at traffic lights and the natives appear en-masse with anything from water, gift items and the local newspaper to sell car to car.
