Suffolk from 2001-2003.  Still waiting for those good days.  Particularly terrible for a single guy.  I personally favor a gal with most of her teeth still in her head.  Under 80 kg is a bonus.

Thank you very much for the input. I have also discussed the situation with my friends here. I am not so puzzled anymore.

My interview is next week. I'll let you know how it goes. In the meantime, I'll give you some more data, if anyone cares to comment.

I work in an area between physics and engineering. My work is very theoretical, mostly mathematics and computer simulations; but it has applications to real life, sexy stuff. Salaries in my field tend to be very high, due to competition with the industry.

I have been a full professor in a fairly prestigious university for a long time; I would not call myself a star, but I have consistently done very solid work, some of which turned out to be important. Due to changes with my personal situations, I was looking to leave. In the past I have done joint work with two scientists who are now here, and they invited me to apply: apparently to get high RAE ranking it is better to have a very small number of large research groups in the department, and I would be a perfect fit.

My interview is next week; I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes - good luck and get a makeover. I presume you are male? Get those nails done, (miss out nail varnish and just have a polish) and a nice suit from BOSS. Make sure your hair is cut neatly, and of course your eye-brows should be neat..certainly not meeting in the middle.
Even if you don't get the job, the attention to grooming will make you feel good.
Freshly ironed shirt, minty breathe and good posture are also plus points.

Thanks for the advice. I am male.

I'll do my best, which is to wear my least rumpled shirt (I left my only suit in the US). My hair is almost non-existent, but on the plus side my eyebrows do not meet in the middle. Oh, and I'll spend some extra time under the shower.

Puzzled, thou must shop.
Thou must go directly forsooth to the Shop.
Thou must not pass go.
Thou must collect at least $200.
Thou must wear a suit (nb, not birthday suit) to interview, because if my experience is anything to go by, 80% of the panel will be gay men and they really do notice these things.
Begone sirrah!!!

Dear friends,

I have been interviewed and offered a job on the spot. I was indeed asked to name my salary, asked for a very high figure. These people did not even blink. Indeed, my feeling was that the main point of the interview was to convince me to take the job, rather than than the other way around. And I was not even wearing a suit, go figure.

Tomorrow I'll go house hunting.

I must confess I feel bad in telling you all this, with all the horror stories of jobless  people that you read on this site. But I am still happy.

Great News, but I'm having trouble digesting the fact that people can get great jobs with having a full set of hair-highlights, fake tan and some attention to nails. I may have to re-evaluate my ideas a little
Happy house hunting!!!
