1) The job market in Britain is looking a lot better at the moment. Everyone (including me) seems to be getting jobs left and right.

2) The next RAE is looming. Departments are appointing both permanent and temporary people to bolster their submissions, hence the creation of a number of temporary research fellowships at the moment.

I think the RAE was already discussed in this forum, but I am willing to clarify if anyone needs. Anyway, it may not be such a longshot.

Well that's quite heartening to hear. It's been such doom and gloom for so long. (Do they really deep-fry everything in Scotland??)

Well...not in Glasgow - we're too civilised.  Who knows WHAT the Aberdonians get up to - probably deep frying Research Fellows!  Good luck!
