I currently have a (non t-t) position in the US, and will be starting a permanent position at a British university in the fall. Now it turns out that the grant proposal that I submitted a while ago to the National Science Foundation will probably be funded. Lucky me! But I'm not sure if NSF will allow transferring the funding outside of the US. I haven't asked the NSF program officer about this situation, because the decision is still not official, and I don't want them to reconsider once they find out I'm leaving the US. Has anybody dealt with similar issues before? Any advice? Does it help to have collaborators at my US institution who are involved in the grant project?

i would think that this could be done be accomplished at your old institutions.  they might need to change p.i. though if you were the only p.i.   then they can shuffle part of the grant that deals with your time into a subcontract (or at least that is how i've seen it done) and pay you as you agree.
