I took a position, not knowing anything about my potential supervisor.
Within the first few days I was threatened. Deadlines seemed to change verbally, and I was told if I missed one I would not be recommended for rehire. I thought this was strange language upon an initial contact. Feeling that grievance procedures are generally not helpful, and wishing to preserve my own health, I retired quickly, though I was not really ready to leave employment. (I had just earned a higher degree.)
I left after only a few weeks. I had an exemplary career until this. Will I be able to recover from it?

My view is you are allowed a one-time very short term gig, as long as you can explain the situation to future employers, and assure them it was a terrible mistake and won't happen again because you have learned xyz.
